People often believe the world of wild animals is full of competition, and even use words like “the law of the jungle (丛林)” to show the cruel (残酷的) side of human society. But to Chen Jianxing, a 45 - year - old popular writer, it is another story. He has been studying animals for many years and finds animals have selfless (无私的) behaviour and similar moods, creativity, thinking methods and communication abilities to people.
After living as neighbours with wild animals in Africa for 15 years, Chen Jianxing has published a book We Are in Africa recently, which tells his experiences with wild animals in Africa and his thoughts about them. The book introduces lots of wild animals living in different ecosystems (生态系统) in Africa, from grassland and rainforest, to wetland and island. Through beautiful words and lively first - hand photographs, readers can create a sense of “animal world documentary”. The book has gained 9.4 points out of 10 on China's popular review site Douban.
Just as his books tell readers, he, himself, has learned from his wild animal friends. For example, he explains in this book his experience with cheetahs (猎豹).
He says although the cheetahs are one of the fastest animals on land, they have a weaker bite force (力). As a result, their prey (猎物) is often taken away by lions and other stronger animals.
“Although they're relatively (相对地) weak, they behave with no sign of shyness or complaint, but always seem confident, moving around in an unhurried way on the grassland, living their best life. That is so attractive to me, and reminds me to learn from such an attitude (态度),” says Chen.
In a word, I think We Are in Africa is an educational and interesting read. It's really worth reading. You may have different thoughts and feelings about human society yourself after reading it.
