B
Is playing video games for hours every day good or bad for young children’s brain development (大脑发育)? A team from the University of Houston, US, looked for links (关联) between the video game playing and the brain development of 160 children aged between 8-13.
Zhang Jie worked on it. She said, “Our studies showed no links between them. Brain development has nothing to do with video game playing.” The team also looked for links between the children’s gaming time and their cognitive ability (认知能力). May Jadalla worked on the study. She said that it showed “no direct (直接的) links between them”.
If you enjoy gaming, then that might sound like good news.
But the result (结果) cuts both ways. The findings showed that video games were not bad for brain development. But that doesn’t mean they help it either. In fact, some games say they help build cognitive skills but the team find that’s not true. Professor C. Shawn Green also worked on the study. He said that games aimed (旨在) at helping the brain development of young children don’t have so much use as it planned.
Playing video games takes time away from other activities, such as homework. So what do you think?
