When is the shortest day and longest night of a year? The Winter Solstice (冬至)!

They say, "Eating jiaozi on Winter Solstice protects the ears from cold weather." This came from a famous doctor named Zhang Zhongjing. He lived during the Eastern Han dynasty (朝代). 3.
To help them keep warm, Zhang made some dumplings. After eating dumplings, people felt warmer. Their ears soon got better. From then on, people started this tradition.
