Two weeks after getting out of the caves, the judge told Tom, “Nobody will get lost in those caves again. I've closed the caves with big metal doors and three locks.”
Tom turned as white as a piece of paper. “Oh, Judge, Indian Joe's in the caves!” As a result, Indian Joe lay dead on the floor. Tom finally felt safe.
The next day Tom and Huck talked about the money they had seen. Huck said someone else must have taken it from Indian Joe's room in the tavern (小旅店).
“Huck, I bet the money's in the caves! Will you go there with me and get it out?”
“I will if we get in and don't get lost.”
“That's no problem. Just through the entrance that only I know about, we can get into the caves.”
So boys started their treasure hunt adventure. They went down the river, entered the secret hole and crawled to the far end of the tunnel. They tied their string to a rock and moved on. They soon got to the place where Tom saw Indian Joe that night. The boys went carefully over to the place. They found a small bed of blankets by a large rock but there was no money - box.
“Look, Huck. There are footprints and some candle wax on this side of the rock, but not on the other sides. I'm sure the money is under the rock. I'm going to dig.”
Tom took out his knife started digging. Ten centimetres down he hit wood. He lifted the piece of wood and found a large hole. So they climbed inside it and found the treasure box. There was about 12,000, which was shared by them both.
Now Widow Douglas gave Huck a home though Huck wasn't used to the comfortable but regular life. However, to be a member of Tom Sawyer's gang, Huck decided to try the new life again.
