Just then, I noticed a robin(知更鸟) picking a shiny red apple and flying towards a small nest(鸟巢) hidden between the leaves. I tiptoed closer and looked inside the nest. There were tiny birds chirping softly, their beaks wide open, waiting for food. The robin placed the apple near them and gently fed the little ones. And I noticed how carefully it broke the apple into tiny pieces.
I froze. The apple I had just picked dropped from my fingers and landed with a soft sound on the ground. I looked at my basket, full of apples, and then at the robin's nest. A wave of sorry washed over me. These apples weren't just ours—they were part of the life here in the garden. Without thinking, I picked a few apples from my basket and put them carefully by the nest, "For your little ones."
When I returned to Grandpa, he noticed my basket wasn't as full as before. "What happened?" he asked.
I smiled shyly, "I shared some apples with the robin."
Grandpa nodded, "Good work."
I felt warm inside. The apples in my basket seemed sweeter than ever.
