新语篇 名著节选 Suddenly Stapleton sees a butterfly and he runs after it.
Then I hear the sound of steps. I turn round and see a woman coming from Merripit House. It is Stapleton's sister.
"Go back to London，immediately(立刻)，" she says. "You must get away from this place，Sir Henry! Shhh，my brother is coming!"
"What? I am not Sir Henry!"
"Are you not Sir Henry Baskerville?"
"No，no，" I say. "My name is Dr Watson."
Just then Stapleton comes back. "This is my sister，Beryl，Dr Watson. Come and see our home，Merripit House."
Inside the house the rooms are large and elegant(讲究的). We have tea and Mr Stapleton tells me that he was a teacher in the north of England before moving here. But when I look out of the window at the grey moor(荒野)outside，I feel strangely sad. I think of the place，the dangerous mud，the strange sound and Miss Stapleton's warning(警告). They invite me to stay for lunch but I decide to return to Sir Henry.
On the way back I am surprised to see Miss Stapleton sitting on a rock by the side of the path.
"Dr Watson，" she says，"I want to say sorry. Do not worry about my words."
"But what is the danger?"
"Do you know the story of the hound(猎犬)?"
"I do not believe that nonsense."
"But I believe it. Please，listen to me. Take Sir Henry away from this place. The world is wide(广阔的). And this place is dangerous for members of the Baskerville family."
Then she gets up and goes back towards Merripit House. I continue my walk to Baskerville Hall，thinking about the danger.
