③ United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization(UNESCO) has a list of ICH from around the world. According to UNESCO official Yang Zhi, ICH provides “an identity(身份认同) to make people different from others”. The sport of hurling(爱尔兰式曲棍球) is an example. Hurling players use a wooden stick with a flat end to hit a small ball. It is a national sport in Ireland. The sport brings Irish people together. In December, UNESCO named Irish hurling as a form of ICH.
④ Besides, ICH can also have some practical uses. For example, some traditional medical practices not only helped people stay healthy in ancient times, but also have inspired modern science. The “medical bathing” practised by people in Xizang is a good example of this. They have been bathing in hot herbal(草药的) water to treat illnesses since more than 600 years ago. Today, many medical colleges still teach this practice to their students.
⑤ Each country has its own forms of ICH that show “people's creativity and cultural diversity(多样性)”, according to Yang. “And for all of us, ICH is a bridge between the past and the future.”
