Today is Saturday. It's Mum's birthday. "Shall we go out today?" she asks. "I need to wash the car," answers Dad. The children shake their heads. They all have other plans. Mum is sad. "They all forget my birthday," she thinks. She decides to go to the cinema.
As the door closes, Dad smiles. "Good!" he says. "We have lots to do before the party. Where are Mum's presents?" Jane points behind the sofa. Mark takes out a shopping list. "I'll do some shopping now," he says and goes out. "I'll clean the rooms," says Ken.
An hour later, Ken can smell something good. "Have you finished Mum's cake?" he asks Dad. "Yes," says Dad. Mark is back with the shopping. "What's that noise?" he shouts. "It's Jane," says Ken. "She's choosing some music for the party."
Three hours later, everything is ready. "Where's Mum?" asks Ken. Dad points at his mobile phone and says, "Look! There's a message!"
"Hi, it's Mum. I'm going to have a big meal with Aunt Lucy! I'll be back late tonight! See you!"
"Gosh!" says Dad. "This really is a surprise party!"
