The Jiangsu Football City League is very popular—even more than the English Premier League (英超联赛) or Chinese Super League.
It started in May, 2025, with cities in Jiangsu playing against each other. Some football fans even joke, “Match comes first, friendship fourteenth.” It's like a big party where everyone comes together to cheer for their city's team. The games started on May 10th, and the final was on November 1st.
There are 13 teams. Players are from all walks of life—students, professionals and football lovers—aged between 16 and 40. Many players train in their free time, never giving up even when they are busy with work or study. Wang Xiaowan, vice-chairman (副主席) of Jiangsu Football Association, said he was amazed by its popularity: It turned football into a cultural event.
Though some teams are not the top ones in the league, they have shown steady (平稳的) performance and kept great fighting spirit. Their coaches often say, “The players have given their all to make progress. Their passion (热情) has earned them cheers and respect.”
A reporter said, “This league is different. It's not about high pay but about city pride and local culture; spectators (观众) are not just fans but local relatives, friends and citizens; the field is not a stage for professional players but a place where everyone can find a sense of belonging (归属).”
Every match drew lots of local people, who shouted loudly to support their city's team. The league has become a valuable part of citizens' lives, leaving each city football memories.
