The Twig may look like any clothing shop from the outside, but inside it is a magical place for children in foster care homes (领养家庭).
The children are welcome here. The shopkeepers (售货员) let them pick out and try on clothes. Each child in foster care homes can visit it once a month and walk away with around 10 items (商品), all at no cost (花费).
"
They make you feel really loved," says 14-year-old Alexie. "They're helping a lot of children who just need to feel loved and welcome."
"A Victoria's Secret dress I get from there is my favourite," Alexie says. "It's sparkling (耀眼的) and really cute."
"A lot of times, the kids don't come with anything and we can get small allowance (津贴) to get them shoes and clothes," says Lynndsey Wilson, Alexie's foster mom (养母). "That's just a time to get them what they need, but it's never enough."
Wilson — who, with her husband (丈夫), has fostered 13 children over the past two years — makes the 40-minute drive from their home to The Twig every month with Alexie.
"She loves there," Wilson says. "It's a bad month if we don't go."
The Twig is about much more than just the clothes it gives.
