As we all know, climate change has great influence on the birds' living environment. Take Poyang Lake as an example. As an important habitat for many seriously endangered birds, the water level of Poyang Lake has experienced unusual rises and falls in recent years.
"In some years, the lake experienced floods, while in others it experienced a shortage of rain. Both of these situations led to less food in the birds' habitat," Qian Fawen, a leader of the National Bird Centre of China, said.
To solve such habitat problems, China has named 1,140 places these years as important living and wintering spots in wetlands. To protect the wetlands, a law was made in 2022 to control human activities. According to the law, people can't overuse the wetlands. What's more, they can't pour waste water into the wetlands.
As these methods work well, more birds are seen wintering in wetlands in China. In February, Hunan Province reported that 72 kinds of waterbirds spent the past winter at Dongting Lake, and that the number of one endangered kind of bird increased from 300 in the 1980s to more than 5,000. All of these cases show a better future.
