Time passes. Wendy cooks for the boys and mends(修补)their socks and trousers. She's very busy，but she likes being their mother.
The children are in their house. Wendy puts John and Michael and the Lost Boys to bed. She starts to tell them their favourite story.
“Listen，then，” says Wendy，beginning her story，“In this story there is a man. His name is Mr Darling，and his wife's(妻子的)name is Mrs Darling. They have three children. These children have a nurse called Nana. One evening Mr Darling puts Nana outside in the garden because he is angry with her. That night the children fly away.”
“It's a great story，” says Slightly.
“They fly away，” Wendy goes on，“to Neverland. Now just think about the unhappy parents without their children.”
“It's a sad story，” the first twin says.
“I'm sure the story doesn't have a happy ending(结尾)，” says the second twin.
“Well，” says Wendy. “A mother's love is strong. The children know that the mother always leaves the window open for her children to fly back in，so they stay in Neverland for years and have a great time.” But Peter does not like this part.
“Do they go back at last?” the Lost Boys ask.
Wendy smiles and says，“Now，let's look into the future. A beautiful lady is at London Station with two men.
And she points at the window，“Look，dear brothers! The window is still open. So they fly up to their mother and father and everyone is very，very happy.”
“Wendy，you are wrong about mothers，” Peter is angry and says. “They close the window. They forget(忘记)you. They put another little boy in your bed.”
Suddenly，John and Michael both cry together，“Wendy，let's all go home.”
