Hands-on Outdoor Learning
At Pearson Ranch Middle School, students get to have
hands-
on outdoor learning in its garden — because not all classrooms have four walls.
Students can find different plants in it. This plant right here is a bush bean(矮菜豆). And over there, they have some sugar snap peas(甜豌豆). The seventh-grade students are excited about the plants.
With each new discovery(发现)in the garden, students' love for nature grows. The teachers at the school think it is just great for kids to get outside.
Any teacher can bring his or her students to work in the garden. If there are things to be harvested(收获), then the students can take those things home.
“This place could be the centre of a park in future years,” Garcia said, “Through planting, I love nature. And I get to learn that we should protect our nature.”
Next month, the school will have a garden celebration(庆祝)when all of the fruit and vegetables are harvested. They will be used to make smoothies(冰沙)for all the students.
