Confucius(孔子)was one of the greatest teachers in ancient(古代的)China. He influenced(影响)Chinese education(教育)in many ways. But he didn't usually give lessons by doing most of the talking. His teaching was done more in talks.
Through his lifetime, about 3 000 young people studied under Confucius. He changed his way according to(根
据
)the needs of each student.
One day, one of his students, Zi Lu, asked him a question, “When I hear a piece of good advice(建议), should I put it into practice at once?” Confucius said, “You should always first ask someone with more experience(经验).”
A few days later, another student named Ran Qiu asked the same question. To him Confucius said, “Yes, put it into practice right away.”
A third student heard the two talks. ▲ “Ran Qiu always
hesitates in making decisions(决定). So I asked him to take action(行动)quickly,” said the teacher. “But Zi Lu always makes decisions too quickly. So I want him to think twice(三思)before he does something.” See? Different people get different answers. And that was how Confucius taught.
