There are many academies in ancient (古代的) China. Today let’s see four of them.
Yingtianfu Academy in Shangqiu, Henan, was built in Later Jin dynasty (朝代) (936-947 A.D.). Later, Fan Zhongyan came to study here, and then worked as a teacher. In 1043, it was changed into Nanjing Guozijian, making it the highest (最高等的) academy in the Northern Song dynasty.
Yuelu Academy is at the foot of Yuelu Mountain of Hunan. It was started in 976 A.D. in the Song dynasty. The academy, going through (历经) the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, has a history (历史) of more than 1 000 years, so it is called the “1 000-year-old academy”.
Songyang Academy is at the foot of Songshan Mountain in Henan, which was built in the North Wei dynasty about 1 500 years ago. It was called Songyang Temple (寺庙) at first. After changing its names some times, it became Songyang Academy in 1035. Then, it became an education institution (教育机构) in ancient China.
Bailudong Academy is at the foot of Wulao Peak (峰), Jiangxi. It was built in 940 A.D. as the first comprehensive (综合的) academy. Zhu Xi in the Song dynasty built it again and set the rules. Later, the rules of Bailudong Academy influenced (影响) the school-running model for hundreds of years. They now spread (传播) to Japan, South Korea and other areas.
