Dr David Evans, 65, has been teaching Chemistry in Beijing for nearly 30 years. He has been famous online in China recently. It’s because of his great work to make the public understand science better and have fun from it.

He also visits schools from time to time. Young students were interested in the experiments(实验) that produce bubbles, smoke and fire. “The most important thing is not what to teach, but how to make students become interested,” he said. When asked about the videos online, he added, “I want to use the Internet to light up their interest in Chemistry. Hopefully, I can give students a chance to see the beauty of Chemistry with their own eyes, and some of them would love to become scientists in the future.”
So far, he has visited more than 300 cities across China, giving Chemistry lessons in schools, science museums and other places. But China is so huge that Evans realizes he needs to be more creative in reaching out to the public. So in 2018, he started posting videos online. The 534 videos have received more than 9.9 million followers and 23 million “likes”.
Evans has got over ten awards since 2001, like the Friendship Award, the highest one in China for foreigners, and the China International Science and Technology Cooperation Award, the top scientific award for foreign scientists.
