四、完形填空
As the teacher pronounced my name, I knew what lay ahead. She called me to the whiteboard to do a long division (除法) problem. Maths was my 1 subject. When doing a long division problem, I always repeatedly put the 2 in the wrong places, or forgot to add in the zeros. 3 I reached the whiteboard, I looked at the blonde-haired girl next to me, trying to copy 4 she was writing. I tried my best, but she went faster than I could understand.
Impossible to understand. Why me? Why couldn't I get my head around this strange concept (概念) that all the other kids understood? Why, even when I tried my hardest to deal with (处理) the division problems?
Why? Why?
I held back salty tears and wrote some numbers randomly (随便地) on the board. The teacher read over our answers silently.
"Now, class, Susie did this problem 5."
"As for Tara," the teacher said, rolling her eyes, "Gosh, I don't even know what she did."
The class broke into laughter, and I felt my face 6 red and I tried to hide as low as possible into my seat, in hopes of 7 them from seeing me at all.
But this 8 from middle school is one I remember, surprisingly, in a positive (积极的) way. It made me stronger, and gave me determination (决心). When I get a bad grade in school, or I am put down by somebody, I think of that moment and every one of those whys that I asked myself, which give me the courage (勇气) to 9 all of those whys. I will continue until perfection, or as 10 as I can get to it.
