Teens preparing for lion dance
John and Tom, both teenagers, are lion dancers. At this year's Spring Festival, they plan to perform a difficult lion dance. To prepare for the performance, they are practising almost every day.
“This is such a difficult dance,” explains John. “Tom and I have to move together perfectly. Otherwise, we won't look like a lion.” John practises moving the lion's head, and Tom moves the lion's body and tail. Together, they have to make the lion come alive with smooth moves. But it is not easy because their dance has lots of very difficult jumps, leaps and lifts.
The lion dance is an important part of the Spring Festival celebrations. It dates back thousands of years. During the Spring Festival, people perform the lion dance to bring good luck for the new year.
“We know that the lion dance is such a big part of Chinese culture,” says Tom. “That's why we want our dance to be perfect.”
