There are four blind men. They want to know what elephants look like. Because of the blindness, they can only touch the elephant.
The fat blind man touches the ivory (象牙) first. He says, “Oh, I see! The elephant is big, thick and smooth, just like the carrot.”
The tall blind man touches the elephant's ear and yells, “No, no, no. The elephant is a big fan!”
The short blind man touches the elephant's leg. He says, “You are both wrong! The elephant is a pillar (柱子).”
The old blind man says, “The elephant is not that big. It's just like a rope.” He is touching the elephant's tail.
These four blind people are arguing endlessly (争论不休). Each of them says he is right. We all know that none of them is right.
