Hi travel lovers! It's me, Claire. I'm here in Sweden for the Midsummer Festival. This wonderful festival is a big celebration of summer and light. It's one of the most popular festivals in Sweden.
Every year, people celebrate Midsummer on a Friday between 19 and 25 June. In the northern part of the world, this is a holiday to mark the longest day of the year. Since Sweden is a country in northern Europe, the days are very, very long. It seems like the sun never sets!
With so much daylight, most of the festival's celebrations take place outside. Tonight, I'm enjoying a delicious picnic with traditional Swedish dishes. We've got new potatoes, fresh fish and these amazing wild strawberries. Honestly, they're all so tasty!
Women and children often make flower crowns and wear them during the Midsummer Festival. A local woman helped me make a crown for myself. Isn't it beautiful? Look over here! That's called a maypole. It's a tall pole covered with leaves and flowers. All day long, people sing and dance around it.
After dinner, we'll play games together and keep listening to music. One more exciting tradition? Taking an evening swim. I can't wait for that!
This festival is a celebration of summer. I'm so glad I got to visit Sweden during the Midsummer Festival. I hope you get the chance sometime too!
