It is time for Mr Green to go to work. His wife gives him a lot of Christmas cards. “Please post them on the way to the bus stop,” she says. “I will remember to do that,” he answers. “I know, last time I kept your letter in my pocket for some days. But this time I will post these cards.” Mrs Green smiles. “This time you will surely post them,” she says.
Mr Green walks slowly along the street. Soon a man comes up behind him. When the man walks by, he looks back and smiles at Mr Green. “Don’t forget to post the cards,” he says. Then a girl walks by. She also turns and says the same words to Mr Green. Mr Green says to himself, “Why are these people smiling at me? And how do they know I have the cards to post?”
At last, he comes to a postbox. He puts the cards in it and walks on. But once more a man comes up behind him and speaks to him. “Did you post the cards?” he asks. “Yes, I did,” says Mr Green. But this time, he feels very angry. “Then I can take this off,” says the man. He takes a large piece of paper from the back of Mr Green’s coat. He shows it to Mr Green. On the paper, there are some words—Ask him to post the cards. Mrs Green pins (固定) the paper to Mr Green’s coat before he goes out.
