Once, a father and his son went to a kite flying festival. The son was very 1
excited
(excite) to see all the colourful kites in the sky and asked his father to buy him one. 2
To make
(make) him happy, the father went to a nearby shop and bought one.
The son started flying his kite 3
happily
(happy). Soon it flew high up in the sky. After some time, the son thought to 4
himself
(him), “It seems that the string(绳子) makes it hard for the kite to fly higher. If I cut it, the kite will be free to fly higher.” So he asked his father for a small knife and cut the string. 5
Without
the string, the kite did go a little bit higher. However, it soon started to come down and landed on 6
a
tall tree. The son was sad. He wished that the kite could fly higher after he cut the string instead of 7
falling
(fall) down. He turned to his father for an explanation.
“Well, the string wasn’t holding the kite down. In fact, it was helping it stay up when the wind was calm and guiding it in the right direction when the wind picked up,” the father explained. “When you cut the string just now, the kite 8
lost
(lose) the support(支撑物) and fell down. Similarly, in life or at school, we may face a lot of limits(限制), like rules 9
or
hard tasks. Sometimes, it seems that they are holding us back, 10
but
they are actually guiding us in the right direction.”
